About The Author
Carol Fertig

Carol Fertig

I have been active in the education community for more than 40 years and involved in gifted education for more than 20 years. At various times, I have been a classroom teacher, gifted education teacher, consultant, writer, editor—you name it. I live in Colorado, but also spend a fair amount of time in Chicago. I have two grown boys: one in Colorado and one in California. In my spare time, I enjoy skiing, mountain biking, and golfing. I also like to read, go to plays, and watch foreign movies. Feel free to send me an e-mail.

I am also the author of Raising a Gifted Child: A Parenting Success Handbook. This book offers a large menu of strategies, resources, organizations, tips, and suggestions for parents to find optimal learning opportunities for their gifted kids, covering the gamut of talent areas, including academics, the arts, technology, creativity, music, and thinking skills.

Do you have a high school student who is ready for more challenging material or has a strong interest in a particular subject? More and more of the nation’s best universities are posting free videos of selected lectures on the Internet. While Apple recently created iTunes U, with course lectures, language lessons, lab demonstrations, sports highlights, and campus tours provided by top US colleges and universities, still other avenues are available for viewing. Here is a sampling.

Click on “Science and Technology” or “Society and Culture” for a list of video lectures.

This site contains all recorded video lectures produced in the Duke University Mathematics Department Multimedia Classroom.

Webcasts of major law school lectures, conferences, panels, debates and special events.

A wide variety of lectures from the many departments at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Includes lectures from the Princeton Environmental Institute, Public Lecture Series, the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions, and others. Sample titles are “Exploration of the Great Rivers of Africa,” “Escher and the Droste Effect,” and “The Legacy of John Adams.”

Videos include course lectures, readings, and symposiums in a variety of subjects.
